#Stele_of_Nachy

Image
Stele of Nachy in front of Osiris and Anubis  The stele of Nachy was probably found in Deir el-Medineh. It comes from the New Kingdom, 18th - 19th Dynasty (1550 - 1186 BC).  The upper register shows Nachy in a gesture of worship before the Gods Osiris and Anubis, in front of whom there is a table with offerings.  In the middle register on the left, Nachy and his wife Nefertari receive a libation offered by Amunuasu, a priest of courage and probably the son of Nefertari from a previous marriage. Further descendants follow in the lower register. The presentation of offerings on steles like this guarantees the constant care of the dead in the hereafter and keeps the memory of them alive.

This masterpiece (E 6204) is now in the Louvre Museum, Paris, France. Photo: Corbis/Cordon Press "The divine trio of Isis, Osiris, and Horus had weighty political significance... The living Pharaoh was assimilated to Horus, while the one immediately deceased was identified with Osiris, ruler of the dead; the new Pharaoh's task, like Horus,' was always to re-establish cosmic order; order which had been thrown into disarray and confusion by the death of his predecessor. #Queen_Nefertiti

Image
A limestone sunk relief depicting Queen Nefertiti, the Great Royal Wife of King Akhenaten, who reigned circa 1353-1336 BCE during the 18th Dynasty of the New Kingdom. This piece was recovered from the remains of the Great Temple of the Aten at Amarna. It may have been a sculptor's practice model: a pattern that guided the craftsmen carving the walls of the temple. Or it may have been a trial piece: a practice 'sketch' executed by an apprentice sculptor. This object (JE 59296) is now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, Egypt. Photo: Kenneth Garrett. The relief shows Nefertiti wearing her distinctive tall flat-topped crown from which hang two uraei, "... a headdress which identifies her with Tefnut. This goddess and her twin Shu were the offspring of Atum and the first sexually differentiated pair in the Heliopolitan cosmogony. Shu was linked with Akhenaten, and Amenhotep III [,his father,] was considered an incarnation of Atum; thus husband, wife, and father-in-law (whether ...

#A_granodiorite_statuette

A granodiorite statuette (only 33 centimeters in height) of King Thutmose III depicted as a sphinx. He reigned circa 1479-1425 BCE during the 18th Dynasty. This piece (JE 37981) is now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, Egypt. Photo: Dallet-Alba / Alamy Stock Photo The sculpture once stood in the Karnak Temple Complex near Thebes. However, it was discovered in 1903 buried with thousands of statues, stelae, amulets, inlay plaques, votive cubits, and other artifacts in the north court of the seventh pylon of the Great Temple of Amun at Karnak. This is now known as the 'courtyard of the cachette.' Scholars believe that the hoard was ritually buried by temple priests during the Ptolemaic Period to relieve the crowding of statues and private offerings that have accumulated over the centuries. Most of the objects found date from the New Kingdom through the Ptolemaic Period, although some objects from the Old and Middle Kingdoms were also unearthed. "Unobtrusive as they may have been...
